Vacation in Tanzania

I think I visited Paradise last weekend together with my friend Malena. Zanzibar was wonderful! We spent a day in Stone town and then we went to the beach for another day. It was pouring down rain on our way to the hotel by the beach on the NE side of the main island. Just when we arrived the sun came out again and we spent most of our time in a deckchair, me under a parasol, looking at the ocean.

Besides that one rainy morning, the rain season has been kind to me so far. It's at least 30 degrees C day and night and very humid. I can really feel how I'm thawing up... Now I'm spending a couple of days sitting under a fan in Rosman's garden prepping for my assignment in Nairobi as well as playing with the dog and the turtle, eating lunch with Malena's husband Fredrik and just taking it easy. I can recommend it! Tonight we are celebrating the Dutch Queen's day together with many others based in Dar, all dressed in orange.

I thought I was going to meet a part of the world where everything smells, sounds and feels very different from what I'm used to. It's not that different besides the temperature. Everyone is very nice and the way of greeting each other and talking is very polite and caring, meaning that you always talk about what is going on. I really like that!

      Everyone tells me it will be different once I get out of the cities. I hope we will do some field trips outside Nairobi.

    When we were preparing to go to Cape Town and wondering what it would be like, the friends we were going with said it will be more like Europe than our images of Africa. The people we traveled with and the others we met in South Africa gave us some more insight into other areas. As Lottas says, there are more faces to see. We look forward to your impressions.
    But wondering about the 30C and those business suits you packed? :-)

      :-D The suits are for Nairobi which is appr 1600 m higher up and inland. There it's 14-23 degression C this time of year, so I think I'm safe. Here in Dar it would be impossible!

    Sounds like you're having fun!

    I like the story about Queens Day. In fact, our King took over from his mum (the Queen) last year and so the national holiday moved from April 30 to April 27: his birthday instead of the queen mother's.

    That means that we celebrated - dressed in orange - last weekend and not today. And lots of tourists were not aware and came to Amsterdam all in orange or red-white-blue to party with us... but we were working... So from this place a big sorry to those tourists!

      I had no idea and I guess the news hasn't traveled to Dar. It was a great band and a lot of fun!
